So... got my RotK EE DVD! Yay! As a result, spent the whole weekend watching the movie and the extras.
Is it normal that now I feel depressed?

So the movie... in fact I was a bit disappointed. A lot of added scenes began well but then ended a bit lame:

- the death of Saruman: his voice, what he says to Gandalf, Théoden, etc. Théoden having pity for Grima. The broken staff. Grima stabbing Saruman. All that was good. But why? Why does Legolas kill Grima? His hands were feeling itchy? And why does Saruman have to fall miserably and die on this wheel? Yew! And so not respectful of the power of the character IMHO.

- the drinking game: poor poor Gimli... I really feel sorry for him, he has become a comic relief and not in a subtle way. Burping, drinking, eating... Hell, he's an honourable dwarf warrior!

- Eowyn sleeping: why does she sleep in the hall? I didn't see the utility of that scene.

- in Minas Tirith: Nice adds in the whole Gandalf-Pippin-Denethor scene. And a nice history lesson for Pippin by Gandalf. lol

- the fallen king: nice hint to the book

- Osgiliath: Faramir is wow! A real captain!

- Merry's allegeance: very cool, Merry made esquire and we get to see more of Stybba! Even though I was one of the only ones to spot him with Merry in the crowd of Rohirrim

- Denethor and Faramir: awesome scene! With Faramir saying "Even if Minas Tirith... I would not use the Ring"

- Pippin and Faramir: good explanation of the differences between Boromir and Faramir, and allows the Hobbit and the Captain to bond a bit, hence Pippin's will to save him later

- Eomer: Men fight. Women cook. Hobbits drink. That's his view of the world I guess

- the path of the deads and the pirates of Umbar: No comment about Gimli... You know what I think of that. I liked the fact that we get to see the Pirates and all but why does Gimli hit Legolas' bow to kill PJ?

- Merry and Eowyn: Very nice scene. Merry's words are very moving and so true. They are scared but can't go back. And the later scene with Eowyn saying "courage for our friends" becomes stronger.

- the flower in the tree: nice hint to the book and the return of the king

- the "fight" with the Witch-King: a bit disappointed, I thought it would be longer and it seems like the Witch-king just snapped his fingers and blew Gandalf, pippin and even Shadowfax

- The Pelennor fields: awesome! Eowyn is really good at fighting! And Merry! he just... rocked! Wow! Eomer was touching in his grieving Eowyn.

- The Healing houses: very short! And Arwen's song well... you don't see that it's her. And we don't see Athelas.

- Pippin finding Merry: stronger than in the theatrical as he looks for him all day long.

- Aragorn and the palantir: again, good start but then... WTF??? Arwen??? Arghhhh

- Faramir and Eowyn: Awwwww cute.... but short!!!

- Frodo and Sam to Mount Doom: I liked the "Hobbits in Orc armour" scenes, that shows that their journey was longer.

- The Mouth of Sauron: very good, the emotions on the characters' faces when they think Frodo is dead... but then Aragorn on his horse, like "la la la la I'm getting closer to you Mouth..." slam! "I cut your head, tralala!" Just... weird...

- and no more added scenes after that! How sad...

So to conclude, two characters really rocked in this EE and I'm pleased because it's my favorite character, Merry, and another one dear to my heart, Faramir.
But I think it could have been better with the adaptation of the book. And I still miss my Scouring of the Shire. Come on! Hobbits that kick ass!

So then I watched the extras today... they're awesome! I liked everything in them! Especially the Horses part as I'm very fond of these animals. But I was also very sad watching them. Too many farewells in these documentaries. Cast, crew, and even farewell to us! *sigh* Many laughs too, mainly due to some Hobbits.
Oh and the easter eggs! *cries with laughter* I had already seen the MTV one and it isn't the most funny but the Hans Jensen interview! Really, really good! Dom is so funny! And Elijah's laugh is very contagious.
"Do you kick balls?"

Enough for today. Watching these DVDs made me psychologically exhausted.

Hmmm... well, personally, I liked the new stuff (but that's me...)

The horse thing was great! *Is so glad Viggo bought the horse that played Brego*

By the way... 'Do you wear wings?'

Hahaha...

you see, I'm weird because I enjoy so much watching the movies and they're still my favorites movies ever made but I just can't help ranting about details and stuff ;-)
Yay for "Brego"! And also the fact that Viggo bought the other horse for Jane Abbott the stunt rider... awwwww... I knew about that but seeing it on screen was so awwwww...

No I don't. 'Aww you laugh, it's funny.'

I think I agree with just about every point you made here about the extra scenes... except - I really liked the Witch King vs Gandal/Pippin scene. Personally, my fav scene has ALWAYS been when the Rohirrim arrive and Theoden is rallying them as they prepare to charge the Peleannor fields. With their arrival now distracting the Witch King fromkilling Gandalf and Pippin, it makes that moment waaay stronger, and sends even more chills up my spine. But that could just be me... *g*
