Buh-bye, LOST

Um so I began to write this just after I saw it, which was Wednesday afternoon, but then I got too lazy to finish...
Saying goodbye to the icon I'm using now...
First I need to say this: I was never one to really care about theories and I don't need an explanation for everything ever. Few things annoy me more than people who are like "but what about Kate's horse??? or Hurley's bird???"
That's not important.
So yes, overall maybe too many things are explained by ~special powers~ or ~magic light~ but I don't really mind.
I do wish some things got explained though. These are things that don't have anything to do with the mythology of the show, just things that are not logical to me. Things like:
- where do the food drops come from if The Others took over the Dharma people?
- if women can't have babies on the island after the incident, why don't they have them off island (people like Ben, Tom do get off the island whenever they want)?
Anyway, the finale. Overall, I enjoyed watching it. I cried several times (everytime someone remembered life on the island basically but also at times like when Jack and Kate said goodbye to each other WTF self you don't even ship them or like them individually, though I did like Jack in the last few episodes, go figure). HOWEVER, I handled it way better than I handled the BSG finale whose 30 final minutes left me sobbing uncontrollably (and really depressed afterwards). Other example that comes to my mind: Six Feet Under.
My favorite moments might be Charlie/Claire/Aaron+Kate and James/Juliet (because of how it was a reminder of the season premiere) and Jin/Sun being like "lol Sawyer's a cop". But all these epiphanies, though sweet and emotional, were a bit repetitive when you add them all up. And you saw them coming after the 1st few.
I loved that Hurley became the protector of the Island and got to make up his own rules and Ben was his number two.
I'm a bit disappointed by the very end. I loved that everyone remembered and found each other again. And I understood the Sideways world, everyone basically arriving when they die, whenever that is (because time doesn't work like it does in the living world), and when they're ready and the ppl they want to move on with are too, they do move on together (Eloise probably wants to move on with Daniel who wants to move on with Charlotte, and Ben is waiting for Alex I suppose). So Sideways World was basically purgatory. And while seeing everyone reunited was great, it also annoys me by its cheesiness and the fact that even if it's NOT the Island that is the purgatory (everything on the Island did happen), they still used that explanation somehow and I hate it because it's such a over-used LOST theory (especially among LOST n00bs haha). I'd liked it better if it were an Alternate Universe completely. And I wonder if I'll enjoy rewatching the FlashSideways scenes knowing that that world doesn't really exist.
People who didn't understand the finale are fucking annoying. They're all over the internet saying "aaaah they were dead the whole time!". No they weren't! Pay attention! *facepalm*
I like that we don't know what happened to everyone still alive when Jack dies. Did Claire become a real mother to Aaron again? How did Hurley and Ben protect the Island together? (haha I'd like to see this) Did Desmond make it back safely to Penny and Charlie? I liked what
airings wrote about Life after Lost hehe.
So overall I enjoyed this finale, even if I didn't like everything in it. It wasn't the best series finale ever, but not the worst either. And I still love Lost as a whole.
now some thoughts on the TV I caught up with:
30 Rock: Matt Damon dancing hahaha. Nuff said.
Bones: Hodgins speaking French is hot. What? What plot? Oh yeah, this end is intriguing, I wonder when the next season will begin (in-series timeline, not the date of the premiere lol).
Chuck: awesome finale again! wow this show keeps changing but stays so good
Doctor Who: fun with a side of creepy, yay part 2 tonight
FlashForward: I enjoyed the last 2 episodes (Team John Cho & Dom!!! :D), it would have made a good season finale but alas it's a series finale so...
Glee: I enjoyed it this week. The outfits were hilarious and I liked the songs. And Kurt's dad FTW.
Grey's Anatomy: surprisingly, one of the best finales! Part of it reminded of ER (another very dangerous workplace lol). It was a bit like "let's get rid of the people we don't want as regulars next year!" though.
HIMYM: didn't really like this season finale... why aren't you funny anymore, show?
Community, Parks&Rec, The Big Bang Theory: not their best episodes but solid finales
Parenthood: as usual it's not extraordinary but the characters feel real and the emotions genuine.
Almost everything's on hiatus now. :(
According to my calendar, I only have 18 episodes scheduled to air in June.
But I have plenty of stuff stored in hard drives and on DVDs to watch! Like Life on Mars (UK of course)! Maybe I'll also try Farscape (my dad owns a few seasons on DVD). And watch the dozens of movies I own and haven't seen yet!

Date: 2010-05-29 03:00 pm (UTC)Seriously, it's almost worse than the people who are *still* asking where the polar bear comes from. I often doubt that the "haters" on the net actually watch the show.
I loved everything. And never expected the whole mytholgy to be anything else but a McGuffin. While shows like The Wire or BSG used the series format as a means to get out their message about politics or theology, I always found it too be obvious that Lost used the sci-fi and theology elements as a means to just tell an entertaining charatcer-driven adventure story.
A lot of viewers took Lost more seriously than Darlton (DONKEY WHEEL in the window) did.
The only thing that I find disappointing are wasted potential on some character arcs and some mind-blogging character decisions.

Date: 2010-05-29 03:11 pm (UTC)OMG not just over the internet. My boss kept saying that the other day and everyone believed her cuz they don't really watch Lost. I had to be like "NO. The island was the REAL part. They were ALIVE."

I haven't been as huge a fan of the show as others, so I'm okay with the finale. However, if I had been that invested, it would annoy me, too, that of all the theories that one was the one they used, especially since it wasn't the only way out and they only started building up to it in the last season. It reminded me of what EJO said when he was asked how BSG would end. "They all die."
"lol Sawyer's a cop"
Dude, best scene of the whole finale. Haha.
YAY for Farscape.It's...different...but I love it. God, I hope some new shows start this summer. Otherwise all I'll have is Leverage and Burn Notice.
