Happy Lostday and A Very Long Engagement
Jan. 5th, 2005 12:00 pmHiya!
Today is Lostday! Woohoohoo! And I'm still spoiler-free! I'm so worried about Claire... *sigh*
So I went to see Un Long Dimanche de Fiançailles last night (A Very Long Engagement), which was weird, because it was subtitled in English.
This movie is... wow. Just wow. Beautiful. And sad. And hard to watch because of the realistic directing of the war parts. And there are a lot of good and well-known French actors (well, they are known in France) like Audrey Tautou of course and also Dominique Pinon who is in every single Jeunet movie, Albert Dupontel, André Dussolier, Marion Cotillard (you saw her in Big Fish), Jean-Pierre Daroussin, Tchéky Karyo, Ticky Holgado (he's sadly dead now), etc. and even Jodie Foster! I knew she spoke French fluently but wow! I cried a lot during this movie. From the beginning to the end I had tears in my eyes, and sometimes I really cried. But it's great. Go and see it. It's somewhat in tha same style than Amélie but not in the same tone at all.

Date: 2005-01-05 09:58 pm (UTC)I like it when American or British actors speak French too. Like John Malkovich, he's fluent too and made some TV appearances in France. I think he played Javert in "Les Misérables" once. And also Christopher Lee. But this man speaks so many languages it's amazing.
Evey really speaks French?
