Watched the Caprica pilot. LOVED it.
You know how pilots often feel awkward and unbalanced? Well I didn't feel that at all. Ok, the beginning was weird, there were boobs and blood everywhere and I was like "WHAT..." and then "do the Capricans have fun Ancient Rome style? Gladiators and orgies?" and finally "oooooh it's all virtual. Sick and wrong, but virtual."
I wasn't expecting that exactly, idk, I was confused, I thought Daniel had managed to make a Human-looking Cylon but in fact the first Robot-looking Cylon was made from his daughter? First, ew. Then, it kinda explain why these Cylons believe in a one true God.
Overall I thought it was more graphic (sex and violence) than BSG even was. (the scenes in the virtual club + the killing of the Minister of Defense)
It was SO dark. Well, it's mainly about two families trying to survive an enormous grief so I find it appropriate and it's not like BSG was ever about ponies and rainbows... I guess it's missing a James Callis element ;)
It's weird how it's from BSG's past but it looks like its future lol it looked so... flawless and futuristic. The whole pilot looked gorgeous, especially the Graystone mansion. The balcony made me think of Baltar's!
I love how we really get to see the differences between the colonies, thing that we rarely saw on BSG except for the Saggitarons and stuff. There we learned about the Taurons, who went through an "uprising" and are despised by the arrogant Capricans (and other colonies?). I don't really understand how the Adamas could be farmers while there was NO flowers on the planet. I guess there was just plain grass to feed cattle and vegetables like carrots or sth?
I kept giggling at things like cut corners and Pyramid (C-Bucks rule!!!) and cubits and frak and so say we alls. Oh and that Vancouver museum(?) that we got to see on BSG! I think when Helo was on Caprica.
And can we talk about adorable "Willie Adams" aka 11-year-old Admiral Bill Adama? Didn't Adama say sth to Anders about the C-Bucks on BSG? Or am I imagining things? And he already loved a good book aww. It really hurt to look at this little boy who knew loss at 11 and you know he's gonna lose his own son later on etc.
Bear is my hero, the music was fabulous again and he even use the "wander my friends/good lighter/reuniting the fleet/etc." theme for the talk Joseph has with his son at the end! Talk that was awesome and brought me to tears because yes your name is Adama and you're a great family damn it!
it'd have been nice if the terrorist didn't look well... like he's from the Middle-East, you know? though it's clear that the Soldiers of the One can be different (like Zoe and the Athena Academy president(?))
oh and Zoe didn't look like her parents at all! blond+red=black hair lol I know it doesn't work that easily but it still looked a bit weird. Oh and little Willie has brown eyes... why did Eddie bother to wear blue lenses for years! lol
sorry about the randomness of this review!

Date: 2009-04-15 02:02 pm (UTC)I could really really do without the 3945730957305 graphic sex scenes. Like, y'all, I got it the second time round. Really. It was a little too indulgent/gratuitous to me. Although, the part about the killzone and the ritual sacrifice was pretty cool.
The balcony made me think of Baltar's!
I think it's the same house! They just remodelled it, because the mountains in the background + balcony!railings are exactly the same as Baltar's. Or I could just be dreaming, idk.
Zoe didn't look like her parents at all! blond+red=black hair lol
Recessive genes! Or maybe Zoe was like, a genetically-engineered kid, since her daddy's
Bill Nye the Science Guysome hotshot scientist.Bear McCreary omg. His music is just... I'll watch the show just for his music.

Date: 2009-04-16 12:54 pm (UTC)Zoe looked NOTHING like her parents and it was confusing. and LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL I didn't even think about little willie's brown eyes, wth? :D
The no flowers thing... They would have to be very selective of what to grow on their farms and what grasses to let grow in the wild if NOTHING EVER BLOOMS :D It's weird. If it had just been a passing little sentence, but since they made such a big deal out of the omg no flowers!! you'd think they noticed something like that :D
