I think I'd worry about leaving them in but just hidden like that.. if someone has them defaulting to "on," they'd have no way to uncheck them then..

(That said, who the hell would set them to default on? Terrible.)

I hope LJ comes to their senses on this, and at least adds a journal-wide opt-out. I don't even want people posting my icon posts to their FB/etc, which I generally leave public. :/
